Regardless of the speakers in play, the Soulution 331 offered stunning transparency, effortless control including Earth-shaking bass, the kind of dynamic performance that made me say “wow” out loud along with other less PG exclamations, a sound image as solid as real life filled with the sounds of music that were as finely nuanced, detailed, and naturally voiced as I’ve had the pleasure to live with. One real standout aspect among the 331’s many standout qualities is its ability to sculpt finely delineated musical details down to microscopic levels while allowing them to unfold within a believable three dimensional space. The things that make music not only rang out true but they resounded in space as solid dimensional sources of sounds filling space in every direction with an uncannily lifelike sense of attack and decay. While it’s been more than a year since the Soulution 330 left the Barn, my sense of excitement and wonder having spent the past 2 months or so with the 331 leads me to believe Soulution has delivered on its upgrade promise.

This also makes Sentir Que No Sabes a great record for sussing out a hifi’s ability to deliver various acoustic voices, electronics, vocals, and sounds as thick and rich as a tropical rain forest and the Soulution 331 driving the DeVore O/96 nearly made it rain inside the Barn. The 331’s ability to provide shape and substance to even the smallest of sounds adds to the scale of a musical event which brings with it real drama, making music that much more involving, that much more exciting, and when quiet passages drift through real wonder at the sheer quality of the sounds of cello bowed, plucked, and strummed with countless tones and overtones bouncing around the Barn. A fireworks display in sound. Lovely.

When reproduction reaches this level of quality—seamless, pure, and natural—my degree of enjoyment and involvement reach their upper limits, quieting my mind down to the point where there’s nothing but the music and its near infinite sonic qualities. In terms of comparisons, the Soulution amp is even more refined and nearly super-natural as compared to the Pathos which is pretty damn magical in its own right. The 331 also outdoes the InPol amp when it comes to that 3D recreation I mentioned early on that makes reproduced music feel fully formed in air to a greater degree which for me translates into that much more involvement and excitement.

While we’re here, I’ll talk about the optional DAC and to cut to the chase—in my experience you won’t find a better sounding DAC for its price.

Also according to my tastes, “Naima” from Giant Steps is among the most beautiful pieces of music ever made and the Soulution acting as phono stage and integrated amp let that beauty shine through in living color so if you own a turntable and Moving Coil cartridge(s) that you love, the Soulution’s phono stage may be all you need if you value a one and done phono/amplification solution.

De Soulution 331 is zelfs koud uit de doos vanaf de eerste seconde meteen herkenbaar als een topproduct. De weergave is ongelofelijk stabiel en trekt in bijna geen enkel facet meteen de aandacht. Het woord “bijna” heeft hier betrekking op het grote verschil tussen gebalanceerd of single ended aansluiten. Gebruik je laatstgenoemde (RCA) connectoren dan is het geluid netjes binnen de lijntjes en bevindt de weergave zich op alles aspecten in lijn met beheerst, verfijnd, zuiver, uitmuntende balans van hoog tot laag en ga zo maar door. Sluit u de bron echter gebalanceerd (XLR) op de 331 aan, dan verandert het beeld substantieel. Want meteen wordt het stereobeeld 50 procent groter en strekt zich ver buiten de luidsprekers uit, is er meer inzicht in wat de muzikanten doen en ontstaat er een meer nadrukkelijke expressiviteit. Uiteraard is het aan u wat u beter bevalt, maar voor mijzelf presteert de 331 aanmerkelijk beter wanneer er van gebalanceerde verbindingen gebruik wordt gemaakt.

Omdat ik mij graag 'in auto’s verwoord', doet deze klasse mij meteen denken aan het luxe gevoel en de onverstoorbaarheid van een Mercedes S klasse of BMW 7-serie, of zo u wilt Mercedes EQS of BMW I7 modellen. En de duurdere Soulution modellen? Ook die heb ik veelvuldig in verschillende configuraties in zowel het heden als verleden kunnen beluisteren en die gaan gelukkig voor het merk zelfs nog verder op gebieden als tonale rijkdom, grandeur, grootsheid en een bijna monumentale stabiliteit. Feitelijk doet de 331 in grote lijnen hetzelfde als de nieuwe Soulution 7 topserie, maar dan in afgeslankte vorm. De verschaling is hier zo knap gedaan dat deze verschillen pas opvallen als je ze naast elkaar hoort. Chapeau, Cyrill.

Het merk Soulution is niet zo scheutig met nieuwe modellen en grote updates en waarom zouden ze ook. Vaak lopen hun ontwerpen dermate ver vooruit dat ook in de jaren daarna niet of nauwelijks verbeteringen mogelijk zijn. Dat deze fabrikant nu gestaag zijn series aan het upgraden is zegt dus veel over de mate van behaalde verbeteringen en die zijn best fors. Dus iemand die een 330 naast een 331 plaatst, hoort meteen dat de nieuwe editie substantieel beter is en je hoeft geen 5x om te schakelen.

Zoals ik het waarneem heeft deze geïntegreerde veel genen van de nieuwe 7-serie geïmplementeerd en dat is natuurlijk fantastisch nieuws. Voor wie is deze 331 bedoeld? Enerzijds de kritische audiofiel die het maximale uit zijn keten wil halen en bij relatief weinig oppervlakgebruik, graag muziek de hele dag zonder irritatie wil horen spelen. Hij of zij is op zoek naar een mooi tonend product wat fraai staat in huis en kan genieten van de enorm stabiele, betrouwbare en bovenal naturel weergave.

Choć w czasie testu źródłem dźwięku były zawsze płyty kompaktowe bądź pliki, mięsiste brzmienie Soulution okazało się całkowitym zaprzeczeniem stereotypowej „cyfrowości”. Niezależnie od repertuaru i kolumn, muzyka z towarzyszeniem 330 brzmiała plastycznie i gęsto, wręcz organicznie. „Jak lampa” chciałoby się dodać, ale pokażcie mi lampę, nawet w tej cenie, która potrafi z siebie wykrzesać taką energię niskich tonów, a w dodatku zachowuje nad nimi pełną kontrolę… Jeśli faktycznie istnieje element, który pokazuje bezwzględną przewagę dobrze zaprojektowanych zasilaczy impulsowych nad liniowymi, to jest nim bas. W wykonaniu 330 przepastny, niesłychanie dynamiczny i punktualny, ale nigdy suchy czy przesadnie konturowy. Podobnie jak reszta pasma, tak i ten zakres okazuje się ponadprzeciętnie nasycony, wręcz tłusty, a co ważniejsze – jednolity pod względem barwy. Wielokrotnie miałem do czynienia ze wzmacniaczami, w których występowała spora różnica między niskim a średnim basem, tak w barwie, jak i w szybkości odtwarzania impulsów. „Trzysta trzydziestka” jest pod tym względem idealnie wyrównana – uderzenia w kotły, pasaże gitary basowej czy szarpnięcia strun kontrabasu wybrzmiewają z taką samą energią.

Fenomenalnie zabrzmiała także muzyka klasyczna z różnych okresów. Koncerty na instrumenty dęte Telemanna zyskały drugie życie dzięki porywającej dynamice, zrywności i żywiołowości, jaką wykrzesał z nich Soulution. Słychać było, że dla wzmacniacza nie ma ograniczeń – przeskoki od zwiewnego solo fletu piccolo do gwałtownego tutti orkiestrowego odbywały się w ułamku sekundy, bez najmniejszego zawahania. Barwa barokowego ansamblu była wyrównana w całym zakresie i aksamitna, ale nigdy złagodzona. Smyczki i basso continuo miały odpowiednią płynność, ale także, zwłaszcza w szybszych częściach, pazur i błysk. To naprawdę wielka sztuka, zarówno ze strony realizatora dźwięku, jak i konstruktora sprzętu: sprawić, żeby np. taki flet traverso, grający w najwyższych rejestrach, zabrzmiał perliście i jasno, a jednocześnie – by jego dźwięk nie wrzynał się słuchającemu w czaszkę.

Ostrego hard-rocka z lat 60. XX wieku, jak i znacznie nowszych bluesów znad Wisły słuchało się niczym płyty analogowej z dobrego gramofonu. Brzmienie było nasycone, plastyczne i melodyjne, a jednocześnie dynamiczne, z mocno zaznaczonym rytmem. Myślę, że każdy, kto słucha klasycznego rocka lub bluesa, bądź porusza się w zbliżonych klimatach, może już zacząć zbierać pieniądze. Soulution 330 zdecydowanie powinien się znaleźć na jego liście typów do odsłuchu przed planowanym zakupem. 

Jeśli macie akurat wolnych kilkadziesiąt tysięcy, możecie za nie kupić szwajcarski zegarek, choć niekoniecznie taki z najwyższej półki. Albo szwajcarski wzmacniacz – z najwyższej półki i na całe życie. Pierwszy będzie wam pokazywał tę samą godzinę, co najtańsze chińskie „plastiki”. Drugi zagra jak nic innego na świecie. To co będzie – zegarek?
