Z takim też nastawieniem i odpowiednio wysoko ustawionymi oczekiwaniami ulokowałem w pierwszej kolejności trio Ceramic Disc Classic pod odtwarzaczem i … się nie zawiodłem. Bardzo wyraźnemu zaczernieniu poddane zostało tło, jednak efekt ten nie polegał na ordynarnym wymazaniu dalszych planów, lecz odsunięciu niewidzialnej, acz wyczuwalnej ściany za ostatnimi rzędami muzyków i ulokowaniu tam czegoś w postaci antymaterii, czarnego światła, czy jak kto woli nicości. Po prostu słychać było niezwykle naturalną propagację dźwięków, wierne oddanie warunków akustycznych w jakich dokonano poszczególnych nagrań, lecz bańka powodująca obecną gdzieś na granicy percepcji kondensację dźwięku pękła. Krystaliczną czystość zyskały wszystkie, nawet najmniej istotne niuanse, przez co zdecydowanie poprawiła się rozdzielczość, namacalność i realizm przekazu. Usunięta została, stanowiąca do tej pory, jakby się mogło wydawać natywną część dźwięku cyfrowa mgiełka – pewna granulacja, wyblurowanie niepozwalające w pełni poczuć faktury ludzkich głosów, czy powierzchni grających instrumentów. I to nie chodzi o przeostrzenie konturów, bo tego nie zauważyłem, lecz o to, że całość była wyraźniejsza, ale tą prawdziwą, niepodrasowaną wyrazistością.

Wbrew pozorom Ceramic Disc Classic nie wygładzają i nie upiększają dźwięku. One jedynie nie pozwalają, by to, co ma dotrzeć do głośników zostało gdzieś po drodze skażone, zdegradowane przez niepożądane a niestety wszechobecne wibracje. Stanowią nader skuteczną barierę zarówno przed drganiami zewnętrznymi próbującymi wedrzeć się do trzewi naszych drogocennych urządzeń, jak i wzajemnymi interferencjami między poszczególnymi elementami toru. Moim zdaniem uczciwie zapracowały na szczerą rekomendację.

I cannot say whether the different types of Ceramic Disc Foot(ers) have successfully eliminated all forms of vibration or their respective degree thereof. However, in term of improved sound quality, I dare say that they have improved the vividness, there-ness/sensation, imaging, presence/weight, transparency/detail, energy/transient, and soundstage(width, height, depth and atmosphere), in the total presentation. COULD ANYONE AFFORD NOT HAVING ‘EM AFTER THE EXPERIENCE? 

That whole experience has encouraged me to find the next components to be placed atop the next sets of Ceramic Disc Classic Foot. After some endeavors, I decided to place each set of three under each of the two Frank Acoustics Power Line Management PLM-5500 (Step Down Transformer by 8V), that fed to all the power distribution to all the source components, and pre-amplification (except to the power amplifiers and powered bass towers of the Gryphon Audio Kodo Loudspeakers).

Thereafter, playing BILL EVANS TRIO SUNDAY AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARDS (Mofi UltraDisc One-Step Pressing UD1S 2-002) on the Sperling turntable was more revealing and more emotionally engaging, comparatively.

Here, the nuances in strength and pressure applied on the keys of the Steinway Grand Piano by Bill Evans at the Village Vanguard was more obvious, palpable and tangible. There was more of that above mentioned there-ness, as if I was seated closer to Bill and the Grand Piano.

The details of that recording session started to emerge, bloom and float therefore a I felt a sensation of freshness to an aged but known recording. The accompanying musicians, both Scott LaFARO and Paul Motian, and their instruments were given more definition, density, delineation and presence…(as if given) new life, vibe and energy. There was something refreshing and apparent about those resonating strings of the double bass by Scott, and the coarse skin vibrating at the drum after each brush and hit by Paul. I found their respective role and contribution to the session were given more light thus meaning in the play.

Playing back the track, “Maltilda” from the above mentioned record, HARRY BELAFONTE AT CARNAGIE HALL, I noticed that the soundstage of the Carnagie Hall was more apparent with height, width and depth that extended beyond the boundaries of the walls in my audio den.

Therefore, Belafonte’s moving about the stage and the changes in the volume of his voice at different part of that stage became more obvious, instantaneous and real. The whereabout of the accompanying musicians was individualized and their respective distance to Belafonte was equally clearer. The different sections of the audiences were similarly separated and that hearing of individual voices among the audiences was easier.

I did the same thing with a Rega Planar 10 turntable on the Seismic rack, which brought even greater rewards, the Franc Audio Accessories Ceramic Disc TH feet relaxing the sound significantly by taking away edginess and softening the presentation without undermining detail. Voice was very well served here with a perceived increase in nuance, dynamic range and dynamic contrast. A sense of stunning three-dimensionality hit me, making the imaging tactile and adding weight and substance to the bass. Encouraged by this, I tried the Franc Audio Accessories Ceramic Disc Classic feet under this three-legged turntable. Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks [Warner Bros] retained its crude character but projected into the room much better with far more apparent separation between instruments and voices.

The Franc Audio Accessories Ceramic Disc isolation feet work and work very well. They are well built and finished to a high standard. If you want a better idea of what your system is capable of and what your music sounds like, I suggest you give them a spin.

When we used the footers under various electronics, our unanimous verdict was that they added to the stability of the image and lowered the system's noise floor. Compared to solid footers like cones and plate-ball-plate or ball-on-plate footers which change the overall sound, the Franc Audio Accessories footers left the tonality of the sound unchanged. We thus didn't get 'more bass' or 'sparklier highs' which can suddenly appear after putting a device on new footers. With only one set of three Franc Audio Accessories footers on hand, the most beneficial outcome for us was when they were deployed under our Phasure NOS1 DAC source component. In conclusion we can say that the clever way of constructing this multi-tiered multi-stage vibration control device is highly effective. Besides isolating the device from its support surface, the footer also neutralizes casing vibrations without altering the sound’s core tonality. Lower noise not changed timbres could be the product's slogan...

Putting three Classic feet under a heavy Moor Amps Angel 6 power amplifier, which was already on a spring isolated rack, also relaxed the sound and allowed more low level detail to come through which made the music more nuanced. This helped to deliver impressive depth of image from an old Michelle Shocked album with its double bass and acoustic guitars gaining increased tonal depth in the process.

Replacing the TH with Classic feet here increased the sense of 3D imaging significantly, producing tactile bass that was both cleaner and more substantial than the TH could achieve.

Going back to the DAC I tried the three Classic feet which seemed like overkill given compact nature of the iFi and the size of these feet but they worked better than TH feet. Especially in the presentation of inner detail while there was a lot going on in the music, essentially revealing the quieter sounds that are usually masked by more dominant elements. This means that complex or intense pieces make more musical sense and require less effort to appreciate, which is useful for those whose tastes stray into more adventurous terrain.

Innerlich hatte ich mich schon auf minimale Einbußen beim Tiefbass eingestellt, als die Franc Discs die Stelle der bFlys einnahmen. Aber da fehlte rein gar nichts. Dafür wirkte der Aufnahmeraum noch marginal größer, und Impulse kamen noch eine Spur druckvoller, so dass die Wiedergabe insgesamt an Lebendigkeit und Spannung gewann. In meiner Kette waren die etwa fünfmal teureren Franc Discs den Mehrpreis wirklich wert.

Zuerst standen die MSBs direkt auf den Bodenfliesen, doch nach ein paar Tagen stellte ich sie dann auf die Franc Disc – eher aus ästhetischen Gründen. Natürlich habe ich dann später auch einmal gehört, was die Füße klanglich bewirken: Nimmt man sie den MSBs, bleibt die Tiefe der imaginären Bühne annähernd gleich. Die Wiedergabe ist weiterhin sehr offen und schnell, wirkt aber insgesamt ein wenig weicher. Zurück auf den Franc Discs spielen die runden Transistor-Monos vor allem im Bass noch definierter und druckvoller. Auch Impulse kommen nun exakter und wirken dadurch beeindruckender. Bei Schostakowitschs „Polka“ aus dem Classic Records Reissue von Age Of Gold sorgen die Frank Ceramic Disc Classic für kräftigere Impulse, ein ganz klein wenig mehr Raum, mehr Lebendigkeit und Spielfreude, rein subjektiv sogar für einen Tick mehr Lautstärke. Allen glücklichen Besitzern der MSB Monos seien die Franc Disc Classic also nachdrücklich empfohlen. Es scheint nicht darauf anzukommen, ob die jeweiligen Endstufen ihre Leistung mit Röhren oder Transistoren generieren: Die Franc Discs bringen beide klanglich in meiner Kette von ein gutes Stücken nach vorne.

Die Franc Audio Accessories Ceramic Disc Classic bringen im meinem Raum sowohl unter Röhren- als auch Transistorendstufen eine deutliche Verbesserung des Klanges im Vergleich mit der Aufstellung direkt auf dem Boden. Aber auch der in vielen Vergleichen optimierten, bisherigen Platzierung sind sie überlegen.
