Jeżeli miałbym określić Duo jednym słowem, powiedziałbym „przezroczyste”. Są szczegółowe, ale naturalnie, bez wyczynowości. Słychać niemal wszystko i więcej nie trzeba. A już na pewno nie, jeśli miałoby to zmienić charakter brzmienia. To jest krystaliczne, jasne i wolne od wyostrzenia. Nie brak mu efektowności, ale nie przekracza granicy dobrego smaku ani się nie wysila. Nie eksponuje wybranego zakresu, chociaż góry jest sporo. Prezentuje jednak tak wysoką jakość, że nawet nie tyle nie przeszkadza, co satysfakcjonuje. Nie chciałbym jej wygładzać ani cywilizować.

Średnica utrzymuje idealną temperaturę – bez ocieplenia ani ochłodzenia. Monitory potrafią pokazać i bezpośredniość, i namacalność, i perspektywę z dystansu. Najlepiej to słychać w symfonice, w której idealne proporcje między grupami instrumentalnymi składają się na wrażenie realizmu i prawidłowe brzmienie. Nie „piękne”, ale właśnie prawidłowe i prawdziwe. Mimo niewielkich rozmiarów Duo sugestywnie przekazują kontrasty dynamiczne, zachowując przy tym swobodę. Dźwięk oddycha tym swobodniej, że Marteny budują szeroką i głęboką scenę. Są przy tym dokładne i pozwalają docenić zalety ceramicznych membran. Jeżeli zetknęliście się z udanymi aplikacjami Accutonów, to znacie tę charakterystyczną czystość i selektywność średnicy i basu, osiągnięte bez osuszenia ani utwardzenia konturów. Wymienianie zalet Parkerów można by jeszcze kontynuować, ale wystarczy stwierdzić, że symfonikę prezentują wzorcowo.

Równie czysto jest w średnicy – tutaj znów instrumenty brzmią prawdziwie. Największe wrażenie robi ich separacja i ułożenie w przestrzeni. Zastanawiałem się, z czego wynika ta selektywność i dlaczego nie pociąga za sobą efektów ubocznych w postaci osuszenia czy twardości. Wydaje się, że to wynik czarnego tła, czyli ciszy za instrumentami. Najciekawsze okazało się jednak to, że piosenki które zwykle różniły się jakością realizacji, tutaj brzmiały dobrze. Nie wydaje mi się, żeby Parker ingerował w materiał, ponieważ wtedy instrumenty i głosy nie brzmiałyby tak realistycznie. Nie może też niczego od siebie dodać. Chodzi więc raczej o to, co udaje mu się wyjątkowo, czyli o prowadzenie pogłosu. Brzmi tak, jakby wychodził przed głośniki, wypełniał pokój i powiększał cały dźwięk. Nie pojedyncze instrumenty czy ścieżki, ale ich otoczkę. Pogłos odpowiada za to, że odczuwamy wibracje powietrza przy uderzeniach w bębny. Nie zamazuje przy tym bezpośrednich sygnałów, takich jak uderzenie pałeczek; zostają odwzorowane tak dokładnie, że wręcz słyszymy drewno. Po godzinie nie miałem już wątpliwości: Duo są jeszcze bardziej szczegółowe i precyzyjne niż Nico.

Na koniec coś, co może Wam się wydać dziwne. Marteny Parker Duo są… prawidłowo zestrojone. Niby oczywistość, ale tak naprawdę – rzadkość na miarę białego kruka. Paradoksalnie, im droższe głośniki, tym trudniej oczekiwać, że czegoś nie podrasowano, nie namalowano tak, aby słuchaczom opadły szczęki. A głośnik prawidłowo zestrojony ma to do siebie, że gra zdrowym, naturalnym dźwiękiem, bez dziwactw i kombinacji. I wierzcie mi, że taki jest najlepszy. Bez względu na doświadczenia, preferencje i podniety to właśnie do niego wrócicie z ulgą. Druga strona medalu to wspomniana przezroczystość, ale tym razem również dla reszty toru. Taki głośnik ma w zasadzie nieograniczony potencjał pokazywania cech elektroniki. Możemy podłączać coraz droższe wzmacniacze i źródła, a po przekroczeniu granicy absurdu nadal będziemy słyszeć różnice. Oczywiście, dynamika i bas na tle dużych i drogich podłogówek będą mniejsze, ale jeżeli chodzi o barwę, szczegółowość i przestrzeń – widzę w Parkerach Duo narzędzie recenzenta.

Szwedzkich monitorów mógłbym słuchać codziennie, a kiedy Tempo 6 zakończą żywot, postawić je na ich miejscu. To chyba najlepsza rekomendacja, na jaką mnie stać.

The Parker Duo gave me more bass and more extended bass than the ATC SCM50 which is not to be under appreciated give their size but its also not anything really to get over excited about because the SCM50 are not designed to do that. So what about the KEF Reference 3 that were my main speakers for years. The reference 3 were able to give me more bass than the Parker Duo in outright terms but in my room there is only so much bass I can have within reason to stay balanced and the Parker Duo can deliver the bass needed to wholly satisfy me and I am pretty bass mad compared to a lot of audiophiles. That is great but better is how clear their bass delivery is, how tight, how well defined, how fast, how detailed, how tonally rich, how punchy and how separated it sounds from the music and by that I mean how clean the leading edges are of even deeper bass notes. This allows bass notes to form with the same kind of clarity you get from the mid range, vocals and treble. I have not had bass clarity this good before, not to this level and it impressed me immensely.

Lastly I just want to talk about dynamics as Marten mention on their website that their crossover designs are intended for keeping dynamics in the music. I mentioned this being impressive about the Oscar Duo in their review. With the Parker Duo the overall presentation in the main is held back, or held away from you in the listening plain which creates a fantastic sense of space between you the listener and the event you are listening to, which means there is space even in a small room for the musical elements of the overall soundstage to form larger, more well defined, more separated front to back and left to right and because there is this extra sense of space there is more space for all of these larger elements to shift and change dynamics without any bleed or blurting. Everything stays composed and clean even when there is lots going on in complex musical pieces and this shows me that the speaker is clean and transparent.

I have been hugely impressed by the Marten Parker Duo speakers with the Leema Tucana amplifier, this system has given me some very special listening experiences which to be honest after several years of reviewing high end gear I thought those were over for me outside of looking at real crazy money kit. Instead it shows that the law of diminishing returns is bullshit, if you get the right system together new levels of sound quality are opened up for you. I tried to see if I could get the Elite Edition with the diamond tweeter to compare because even though they are well outside of my affordability I would love to just know what does the diamond tweeter and the other upgrades do and add, how much better can this speaker get. It’s a lot more money so you would expect a big improvement and my mind boggles at the thought of that. Another day for sure.

I want to finish by discussing who is this speaker for, clearly for someone who is very serious about sound quality and who has a healthy budget to spend. I would say these speakers are for someone who is considering KEF Reference 3 speakers, or Bowers 803 D3 or Focal Kanta, PMC signature, ATC and the list goes on with most of them being floor standing competitors at this kind of money. I you really need that bit more bass you might get from the floorstanding speakers maybe that would make a decision for you, but if you don’t need it maybe the smaller stand mount speaker will offer more in ways those speakers don't. Maybe consider what it takes to make a much larger speaker as inert as a smaller speaker in order to sound transparent. That decision is up to you, I love the Parker Duo it’s a special speaker and I award them with our highest accolade. Now I need to go back to the Oscar and see how close I can get them sound. What I mean is that human capability has its limits, and the Parker Duo’s performance surpasses what human reason can fully comprehend. Believe me, this is my deepest realization after fifteen years of reviewing audio equipment. This kind of beautiful sonic quality, born from an exquisite design balance, is something your brain instantly recognizes as “the right sound” the moment you hear it.

Without question, a design that captures this perfect balance can become an irreplaceable Holy Grail in the history of Hi-End audio. The Parker Duo is just such a miraculous creation, chosen by God, born to convey the beauty of music – an apostle of the divine.

With limited space remaining, I can only highlight the key sonic characteristics: 1. Playing “Angels & Demons,” the lower bass frequencies were utterly robust, and the sense of bass scale far exceeded that of typical bookshelf speakers. 2. The bass energy was not only inexhaustible, but also had clear layers, was fast in attack and decay, and the sound quality was particularly round, full, and elastic. Anyone who hears it will know this is the most captivating bass characteristic. 3. The Parker Duo could not only project a vast presence, but also maintained balanced and elastic bass even at low volumes, a very rare quality. 4. The bass extension capability was incredibly deep, possibly even lower than the manufacturer’s specification of 36Hz, reaching floorstanding speaker levels. 5. Even at high volume playback, the sound quality remained unstressed, possessing the relaxed quality typically found only in large speakers. 6. Even when playing recordings with a somewhat hard sonic quality, it could reduce harshness and present a pure and soft aspect. 7. It could fully reveal the most subtle spatial reverberations in a recording, indicating excellent treble resolution and extension. 8. Vocals in the midrange were round, natural, and fluid, remaining effortless even at the highest peaks. Even when playing recordings with a somewhat hard sonic quality, it could reduce harshness and present a pure and soft aspect. 7. It could fully reveal the most subtle spatial reverberations in a recording, indicating excellent treble resolution and extension. 8. Vocals in the midrange were round, natural, and fluid, remaining effortless even at the highest peaks. The portrayal of vocal vibrato at the end of phrases was particularly rich and detailed, a characteristic found only in the most high-end speakers. 9. Male vocals in the midrange had high density and fullness in the chest resonance, possessing a deeply magnetic charm. 10. The high-frequency extension of the piano was extremely pure and refined, capable of fully extending into the quietest silence. 11. The impact of the piano’s bass notes was solid and powerful, with no hesitation in the attack and decay of the keys.

What’s most impressive about the Parker Duo isn’t the exquisite tone of the ceramic drivers, but rather its outstanding acoustic performance. The Parker Duo’s soundstage imaging is particularly precise; vocal mouth size is almost indistinguishable from a real mouth, and the imaging is three-dimensional, making you feel there is space both front and back. The location of the guitar plucks subtly changes with pitch. Naturally, clearly separating each piano key strike is effortless.

The first thing that struck us, and thrilled us, was the ease with which a very wide acoustic scene can be achieved in the three axes with a commendable ability to articulate sound planes in depth.
The previously expressed recommendation of allowing enough air to let these Parker Duo “breathe” adequately always applies. Timbrally, listening to these Martens is a real “journey” within the sonorities of each element on the recording.
The colors and warmth of each instrument is expressed admirably, succeeding in conveying all the emotion that the piece of music is capable of evoking.
Helping in this is the extraordinary speed of this speaker, which, when properly supported by the amplification, allows for truly realistic listening thanks to the lightning-fast transients. 

Speakers for the discerning palate, for those who have already experienced various high-end speakers, these Parker Duo speakers will satisfy the needs of the most knowledgeable enthusiast. They are certainly not “gut punch” or special effects speakers.
Instead, they are speakers that will delight those who know and love the sound of instruments in reality.

Marten behoort bij het handjevol luidsprekerfabrikanten die al vanaf dag één geloofden in de superioriteit van harde membraan/conus materialen zoals keramiek en later diamant. Daar deze voorsprong in ervaring kunnen ze als geen ander de positieve eigenschappen van deze materialen maximaal benutten en tegelijkertijd de mindere “onzichtbaar” onderdrukken. Bij deze Parker Duo valt dit waar te nemen door een prachtige en volstrekt egale integratie van laag, midden en hoog. Door het achterwege laten van welke benadrukking dan ook, is een zeer geloofwaardige natuurlijkheid en verfijning ontstaan. Een vermoeidheidsvrije presentatie die op geen enkele wijze ook maar de geringste hardheid op zal gaan roepen. Muziek komt hierdoor als een heerlijke muzikale douche, vol van heel fijne prikkelende, spannende en stimulerende druppeltjes tot de luisteraar.

In het geval van de Parker Duo’s blijkt er zo’n begerenswaardige informatiedichtheid die zo fraai samengaat met een zeer goede timing, natuurlijke timbres en een volwassenheid, dat je het veel eerder bij goede vloerstaande weergevers zou verwachten dan “boekenplank” weergevers.

Waar ik deze luidsprekers echter het meest in waardeer, is op het gebied van zichzelf onzichtbaar maken. Het is algemeen bekend dat monitorweergevers door hun gemiddeld genomen grote en ruime afstraalgedrag, zichzelf gemakkelijk weg kunnen cijferen. Daar zijn de Parker Duo’s ook toe in staat en doen er zelfs nog een flinke schep bovenop. Want door hun enorme fijnzinnigheid gekoppeld aan een zeer hoge snelheid, accuratesse en kleuringsvrijheid, ontstaan regelmatig adembenemend mooie momenten.

Periodes waarbij ik echt het gevoel heb om werkelijk contact met de artiesten te maken, zonder ook maar enige suggestie van reproductie te ervaren. Prachtig en indrukwekkend.

Een heel mooi voorbeeld van dit laatste is de volledig akoestische uitvoering van Magnetised van de Engelse singer-songwriter Tom Odell. Zichzelf begeleidend op piano kun je door de vergaande afwezigheid van reproductieartefacten een spelt horen vallen. Direct gevolg is dat je hierdoor de galm achter de luide stemuithalen nog beter gescheiden waar kunt nemen, waarna deze als een akoestische wolk langzaam om je heen daalt. Wauw! Hierdoor is het contrast met de doorleefde emotie van Tom soms zelfs zo sterk dat het echt kippenvel oplevert.

Een werkelijk grootse monitorluidspreker die niet alleen opvallend ver gaat in het creëren van de “onzichtbaarheidsillusie” en eigenschappen van volwassen weergave, maar daar ook een prachtige vormgeving, materiaalkeuze en afwerkingsgraad aan koppelt. De prijs is dienovereenkomstig niet mals, maar wel helemaal in overeenstemming met het gebodene.

De Marten Parker Duo is daarmee een echte weergever geworden voor mensen die zowel van een muzikaal aanstekelijke presentatie houden, als wel een hoge mate aan zuiverheid, accuratesse en natuurgetrouwheid nastreven. Missie geslaagd en een aanrader voor iedereen die van muziek houdt.
